Tui Na (Chinese Massage)
Tui Na (pronounced Twee Nah) is an oriental bodywork therapy that involves deep massage with manipulation, balancing the body’s energies, relaxing tense and painful muscles and leaving the body feeling invigorated. It is a highly effective treatment that treats chronic or acute pain. Tui Na, literally translated to mean ‘push - grasp‘, is an ancient Chinese therapy becoming more well known in the UK today. It is very much practiced throughout China in hospitals and clinics and was provided to athletes during the 2008 Beijing Olympics to provide health and fitness and to treat sports injury.
Tui Na massage takes the form of vigorous, although not painful kneading and feels very different to any other form of massage. This kneading relaxes muscles and restores the ’qi’ (energy flow) by concentrating on the acupressure points and meridian lines that run throughout the body, allowing the body to heal itself. It is often referred to as acupuncture for those who do not want needles. It stimulates the whole muscular-skeletal system, returning the body to a balanced and pain free state. The client stays clothed and the massage is performed either in a chair or on a massage couch depending on the treatment required.
